Sharm El Sheikh Beaches Closed Due to Shark Attacks.

Created by Emma Healey - 02/12/2010

Watersports, diving activities and beaches have been closed in the popular holiday resort of Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, due to three shark attacks that have left three Russian tourists injured.

The shark in question is thought to be an oceanic white tip shark, and the same shark is believed to be responsible for all three attacks. According to experts, an attack by this type of shark is very rare with many quoting it as 'abnormal behaviour' which must have been caused by an event occurring. There has been speculation that fishing boats may have started coming near to the beaches, one theory that will be investigated amongst others.

The plan is for a team from the South Sinai national park to catch the shark and release it into the open sea in the Gulf os Suez, a safe distance away from the coast and holiday resort areas.

Sharm El Sheikh is a very popular destination for UK tourists. If you are travelling to Sharm El Sheikh in the near future and are worried about recent events please speak to you Travel agent.
