Luxor Las Vegas
Country: America - Las Vegas
Resort: Las Vegas
Rating: 4 star
With its gleaming landmark dark glass pyramid, this homage to ancient Egypt (or the Las Vegas interpretation anyway) at the south end of the Strip is a hotel with a secret.
Intrepid explorers pass beneath an almost life-size Sphinx to enter the pyramid and find themselves in the world's largest hotel atrium.
Check-in at the reception of this awesome space is in front of a life-size replica of the Temple of Rameses II. After, there's an opportunity to shop at the Luxor stores, or enjoy the IMAX motion simulator ride "In Search of the Obelisk". And all before you've even travelled up the inclinators, elevators that travel up the pyramid's sides to rooms influenced by Pharaonic style elements.
Unique in shape, some with sloping windows, the rooms are scattered with hieroglyphs, fragments of friezes and a soft colour palette of gold, green, red and sand colours and rich wood-detailing.
The treasures of not-so-ancient Egypt are everywhere here, from a King Tut robot guest host to animatronic camels. The theme might be ancient, but the 11 dining choices are contemporary and innovative, serving up an array of international tastes from Pan Pacific at Fusia Luxor and modern American at Company American Bistro to spicy Mexican at T&T.
The spa is worthy of Cleopatra herself, where relaxation and rejuvenation is inspired by a eucalyptus steam bath, sauna and treatments such as lavender sage scrubs and the signature bergamot and citrus massage. It's preparation for a memorable night out at the Pyramid, enjoying the Casino thrills or dancing and cocktails at the hotel's myriad bars, including the Noir Bar and Aurora lounge, with a stunning light show of the Aurora Borealis.
One of the most unforgettable Vegas experiences, however, is the provocative Criss Angel Believe, the newest show by Cirque du Solei I, exclusively performed in the Luxor's theatre.
