This hotel regularly notches up excellent reviews from guests. But not because it's extravagantly luxurious. Instead, its ratings come down to three other things - its setting, cuisine and service.

The hotel snuggles up to a half-moon cove. There's a jetty from where you can snorkel in the aquarium-like waters. And on the beach itself, you've got thatched parasols teamed with wicker sunbreaks. Peace and quiet isn't in short supply, either. There's little else nearby apart from neighbouring hotels, with the nearest town, El Quseir, 67 kilometres away.

The pools, meanwhile, are set in to huge sun terraces that look out towards the bay. While the main lagoon number is set a little back, the children's pool sits at the front alongside palmpeppered lawns. And talking of little ones, there's a children's club, a playroom and a dinky baby pool, too.

The cuisine is worth a mention as well. Guests reserve particular praise for the variety of buffet dishes. Head into the bluearched Al Diwan restaurant at breakfast, for instance and you'll find a huge array of dishes to choose from, plus chefs to cook your eggs to order. It's the same at dinner, with gargantuan displays of international favourites along with a carvery and outside BBQ.

Lastly, there's the service to consider. The staff are ready to go the extra mile, whether that means opening up your parasols and fetching your towels.
