About Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria is one of the 7 main islands that make up the Canary Islands and is the third largest of the Canary Islands. Situated close to the African coast, Southeast of Tenerife and West of Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria has been shaped by volcanic activity throughout its past and offers both beach and mountainous landscapes to enjoy and explore whilst on holiday here. The beaches in Gran Canaria are breathtaking, with gorgeous golden sands and friendly seaside villages create a warm welcoming atmosphere.

Average temperatures in Summer vary between 26 and 28°C with the Winter months being as high as 24°C in places on average. The central mountains create regional variation in climate here.

Gran Canaria Carnival and Festivals

The main carnival season in Gran Canaria is between the months of January and April when the island comes alive. Gran Canaria hosts the largest carnival of the Canary Islands in Las Palmas the capital, consisting of concerts, celebrations, dancing, music, fancy dress, processions of floats and also a drag queen competition. The carnival culminates in the 'Burying of the Sardine' whereby a huge sardine is carried to the beach and burned on a bonfire.
